Artist Statement

To call myself an artist at this point in time sounds pretentious. An artist has a vision, a message they wish to convey through whatever work they produce. I unfortunately, do not have a clear idea what that is. However, I know that I am still learning and absorbing all that I can so I am not discouraged. To say I'm passionate about one particular form of art would be a lie because my interests have not always been linear.

I enjoy writing, I find it to be cathartic in a sense. I am a quiet person, talking is not one of my strong suites, but with writing it's different (mostly because I'm evading conversation) because it's freeing and there are no rules when I write. There is no syntax, there is no grammar, there is no proper punctuation; it's a free flow.

Like many people I also enjoy watching TV. One of my favorite shows of all time is Mad Men. Every time I watch it I not only appreciate the amazing script which provides such an in depth character development, but the setting and keen attention to detail to properly display that time period. It’s such a well thought out show that never ceases to amaze me. The creator of that show, Matthew Weiner has in a way become an inspiration for me. It made me interested not only in setting and design but also in creating my own piece that could be so intricate and layered like his work.
